Step into one of Tirana’s charming local wine bars and embark on a journey through Albania’s rich wine culture. Hosted by a passionate wine lover, this intimate small group tasting session offers the perfect blend of storytelling, history, and discovery.
Only a few knows that Albania’s winemaking tradition dates back over 3,000 years, rooted in the ancient Illyrian civilization. The Illyrians were among Europe’s earliest vintners, cultivating native grape varieties and developing winemaking techniques passed down through centuries.
We will have the chance to sample carefully selected wine varieties and one glass of raki, each representing a different region of Albania.
We will begin the tasting with Shesh i Bardhë, a crisp and refreshing white wine from central Albania (Tirana and Durrës). This indigenous grape is one of Albania’s most ancient varieties, cherished for its bright citrus and floral notes. Its name translates roughly as “white field,” referencing the vast vineyards where it thrives.
Next, we will enjoy Pamid, a light red or rosé wine from Pogradec area in southeastern Albania. Pamid is a native Albanian variety, notable for its distinct red-colored stem, which can even be seen in the mosaics of the early Christian basilica in Lin. Pamid Rosé is an elegant wine with expressive aromas, excellent freshness, and a lasting, well-balanced taste.
Followed by Kallmet, a bold red from the north known as the “King of Albanian Reds”. Its strong taste and elegance capture the essence of Albania’s northern terroir, marked by mountainous terrain and a unique microclimate.
As a special treat, you will also be offered a surprise authentic wine variety, something unique. Its story will be revealed as we taste it together, adding an extra layer of intrigue to your tasting journey.
We will finish with a traditional glass of raki, Albania’s iconic grape brandy, symbolizing hospitality and tradition. As we Albanians say, there is nothing that Raki can’t fix!
Each glass reveals a unique story of place, grape, and tradition, offering a full-spectrum introduction to Albania’s authentic wine culture. To complement the wines, enjoy a selection of local appetizers, paired to enhance the tasting and reflects Albania's culinary heritage.
This experience is more than just a tasting, it is an immersion into Albania’s wine heritage, its regional microclimates diversity, and the warmth of its hospitality.
