Renting a car in Albania is possible in most of the bigger cities of the country. In general, prices are fair although they have a slight increase during the summer season (June – September). In general most of the companies, especially in Tirana have new, modern cars and they are professional in their services.

Renting a car to visit the southern part of Albania such as the Riviera and the historical sites of Berat and Gjirokastra works perfectly. You will be on no time schedule and you can visit the sites you want at your own pace. Traffic can be busy though in some parts of Albania, so allow travel time.

Tirana is a difficult city to manage in traffic, often messy and chaotic with horns beeping on a daily so we give you a pre warning!

Some of the main questions from our guests are :

Is it safe to drive in Albania? Is safe to park in Tirana ?

Our main answer is YES. Parking and driving in Tirana and in all of Albania is safe, chaotic but safe.

Regarding insurance, it is best to check if this includes 100% cover as the interior of your car or loosing your key may not be included. Passing the Albanian border most of the time is also not included by the rental company so it is best to double check the exclusions before you plan your journey.

We do not recommend you use your rental car in the northern part of Albania leading up to Valbona and Theth as these areas have a remote infrastructure and are difficult, bumpy roads to drive into.

Other than this, we wish you a safe journey through Albania, passing some beautiful natural wonders and sunsets along the way.
